IWATSUKI, N. AMAHA, K. and KoGA, Y. Biphasic Change in Human Peripheral Vascular Resistance Produced by Carnigen®. Tohoku J. exp. Med., 1982, 138 (1), 81-85 The response of the human peripheral vascularesistance (TPR) to carnigen® was examined on 11 patients by measuring arterial pressure change during cardiopulmonary bypass at a constant pump flow. The administration of 2 ml of carnigen into the bypass for the adult and 1 ml for the child produced an initial transient (36 sec) decrease in arterial pressure (9%) followed by a definite increase (13% at 5 min after administration). The present results, therefore, reveal that carnigen possesses a property changinghuman TPR in bphasic mode; a transient decrease at first followed by a definite increase. --vasopressor; carnigen®; peripheral vascular esistance; cardiopulmonary bypass

Comparison of the reflexes elicited from combined or separate stimulation of the aortic and carotid chemoreceptors on myocardial contractility, cardiac output and systemic resistance.

Changes in left ventricular performance, stroke volume, and peripheral vascular resistance were studied in dogs after combined and separate stimulation of the aortic and carotid chemoreceptors. Selective stimulation of the aortic chemoreceptors produced an immediate increase in myocardial contractility as judged by the force developed by a strain gauge arch sewn into the left ventricular myocar...

Characterization and cardiovascular actions of endothelin-1 and endothelin-3 from the American alligator.

The structures and biological activities of the isoforms of endothelin (ET) in a reptile are unknown. ET-3, whose primary structure is identical to human ET-3 except for the substitution Phe4 --> Tyr, and a peptide identical to human ET-1 were isolated from an extract of the lung of the alligator, Alligator mississipiensis. Bolus intravenous injections of alligator ET-3 (10, 30, and 100 pmol/kg...

Does Heart Affect Peripheral Vascular Resistance Following Myocardial Ischemia and Reperfusion?

Objective(s) The aim of this study was to investigate the overall effect of cardiac vasoactive factors during coronary occlusion and reperfusion on peripheral vascular tone, using a sequential isolated rabbit heart-ear perfusion model. Materials and Methods Isolated ears were perfused with the effluent of isolated hearts subjected to ischemia (30 min) and reperfusion (180 min, n=6). The comp...

Dynamics of cerebral blood flow regulation explained using a lumped parameter model.

The dynamic cerebral blood flow response to sudden hypotension during posture change is poorly understood. To better understand the cardiovascular response to hypotension, we used a windkessel model with two resistors and a capacitor to reproduce beat-to-beat changes in middle cerebral artery blood flow velocity (transcranial Doppler measurements) in response to arterial pressure changes measur...

Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor from Embryonic Status to Cardiovascular Pathology

Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) is a multifunctional cytokine with distinct functions in angiogenesis, lymphangiogenesis, vascular permeability, and hematopoiesis. VEGF is a highly conserved, disulfide-bonded dimeric glycoprotein of 34 to 45 kDa produced by several cell types including fibroblasts, neutrophils, endothelial cells, and peripheral blood mononuclear cells, particularly T ...
